Saint Nicholas church in Larnaca, is a modern architecture building with an impressive bell tower. At the square opposite the church, there is Christakis Ptochopoulou bust, who died at Tillirias battle in 1964.
Saint Nicholas was born in 270AD in Patara Lykias and was raised by a rich and well-known family. He was very close to God since a child. He started as a priest and then was the Archbishop of Miron Likias. He was involved in charities and helped to establish hospitals and variety of institutions. It is important to mention that Saint Nicholas was tortured at Dioklitianos persecution but after that he carried on helping people and the community.
Saint Nicholas died on December 6, 343AD. Over the years, stories of his miracles and work for the poor spread to other parts of the world. He is also known as the protector of sailors.
