Petra tou Romiou (Rock of Digenes) beach, also known as Aphrodite’s Rock beach, is inseparable from the islands’ folk tales. According to tradition, the goddess Aphrodite rose from the waves at the Petra tou Romiou. Another legend refers to the Byzantine hero, Digenes Akritas, who hurled a huge rock to keep off the invading Saracens. The area was named after that rock.
